Carbon & MRV
R-Leaf® directly destroys atmospheric nitrous oxide (N₂O) after emission. Crop Intellect's Monitoring, Reporting and Verification pathway connects that physical intervention to field evidence, transparent quantification and independent assessment.
Project
N₂O measured around the active crop canopy.
Baseline
Comparable crop and management without R-Leaf.
From field to verified impact
A credible climate outcome requires a documented evidence chain. R-Leaf projects are designed to show what was applied, what would have happened without the intervention, what was measured and how the result was calculated.
Field, crop, product and application records are documented.
A comparable untreated control or justified alternative represents the counterfactual.
Atmospheric N₂O is sampled around treated and baseline canopies.
Weather, canopy and relevant field-management data are recorded.
Raw data pass defined quality, stability and traceability checks.
Project and baseline behaviour are compared under the applicable methodology.
Evidence and calculations are assembled in the Monitoring Report.
An independent Validation and Verification Body assesses eligible project outcomes.
Eligible verified outcomes can support registry issuance or value-chain accounting.
Field measurement
The project effect is assessed in the atmosphere around the crop canopy rather than inferred only from fertiliser use.
Project protocols can sample at crop-canopy height and an upper reference height to characterise vertical N₂O behaviour.
Paired measurements are taken over matched periods so the intervention is compared with baseline behaviour under similar conditions.
Field and laboratory programmes can use laser-based N₂O analysers, gas spectroscopy or chromatography according to the approved protocol.
Wind and other relevant weather data are recorded because atmospheric transport is part of the quantification framework.
Specific monitoring equipment, sampling frequency and field design can vary by project. The applicable methodology, PDD and monitoring plan control the formal requirements for each verified project.
Data integrity
R-Leaf monitoring retains a documented chain through sampling, processing, quality control, calculation and reporting.
Atmospheric N₂O varies naturally. A single treated measurement is not enough. The purpose of the MRV system is to isolate a defensible project effect while retaining the evidence needed for independent review.
International Carbon Registry
Crop Intellect developed M-ICR011, Atmospheric nitrous oxide (N₂O) destruction using Photocatalysts, for agricultural project activities that destroy ambient N₂O under natural light conditions.
What the methodology covers
The public ICR methodology describes air sampling and trace-gas analysis, calculation of N₂O flux using atmospheric concentration and meteorological information, comparison against a baseline without the photocatalytic intervention, permanence through irreversible destruction to N₂ and O₂, and additionality requirements.
Flagship carbon project
The live public ICR project gives buyers and technical reviewers an independent place to inspect the project identity, methodology, project participants, VVB and current status.
Atmospheric nitrous oxide destruction using R-Leaf® photocatalytic technology in agricultural farming fields — 2025 season.
The public registry currently lists the project as Under development. Verified and issued credit status should only be shown as available for purchase when the registry record confirms issuance and inventory has been published.
Value-chain / Scope 3 pathway
In 2025, SustainCERT validated Crop Intellect's methodology Removal of atmospheric nitrous oxide (N₂O) using Photocatalytic Technology under ISO 14064-2:2019.
The pathway creates a structured basis for companies seeking independently reviewed atmospheric N₂O removals within agricultural value chains.
